I went to Genoa, Italy, over the weekend to visit an old friend. It so happens that this exact weekend was his holiday. I did not think about it when I decided to go, and he said nothing. Total coincidence.
I will say, though, that he wasn’t in when I arrived. It may be that this being the official Columbus Day weekend, he wanted to put some space between him and all the commotion, or… it may have to do with the fact that he is dead for a good 500 years now. In any case, he wasn’t home.
Columbus and I go way back together. I am an entrepreneur and a sailor such as he, and we went through a lot of the same stuff. Most of which, by the way, you cannot even begin to imagine unless you were there in person yourself. Now, if you’re thinking being friends with someone whom you never met is awkward, take a look at your list of friends on Facebook. I bet you quite a few you never met and wouldn’t be at all surprised if some are dead too.
If you want an introduction, I am afraid it will be impossible for the time being. I wholeheartedly advised Columbus to lay low for a few hundred years more. With all the Me Too action going on, the beautiful Donna Beatriz can do a lot of damage, and if you don’t know who she is, let’s just leave it at that. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if he was also blamed for global warming… as I said, told him to lay low.
Anyway, Columbus and I are not only friends. We actually do things together, but on that, it’s too early to talk. Just in case you are wandering, him not being here when I arrive and all… being the friend he is, he did leave me his yacht (in the picture below) and the house (6 Euro a visit).
A friend is a friend.
