BOOM Positive

When the shit hits the fan (it will at one point or other), there is something pilots know to appreciate that's worth also remembering on the ground when facing more terrestrial emergencies.

If you are sitting in a supersonic jet in the driver's seat and you hear a very loud BOOM, it is first and foremost good news to be followed by some bad news. If you happened to be a pilot, you would know that the BOOM has nothing to do with breaking the sound barrier as you are running ahead of sound (these are never heard in the Cockpit), and if you are not a pilot, man, you are in the wrong place...

And so... Hearing a BOOM means that something severe and most probably life-threatening has happened, shadowed by the exhilarating fact that you are still alive; otherwise, you would not have heard it, to begin with. Now analyze and act; your life is on the line.

This is to say that in the air as in business on the ground, bad stuff will come your way but rarely will it eliminate you so swiftly that you could not evaluate, regroup and act. Being able to do just that is a privilege that's not to be taken for granted. An emergency that does not kill you on the spot is an invitation to a dance... cool down, put on your dancing shoes, and don't forget to be grateful for being invited.

And above all... stay BOOM Positive.
